As any blogger and email user would now, there is a tremendous amount of spam out there. Apparently, 97% of the volume of all email correspondence consists of unsolicited emails. Anyway, I’ve been quite intrigued lately by a series of spam messages that have been sent both to my email account and to this site. I suspect this type of spam is computer generated, and some of it is really odd: a kind of cut-up, randomly generated text that parodies Burroughs’ automatic writing techniques, and which would make J. G. Ballard blush (or simply yawn?). Not sure what the purpose of it is, certainly not sell you stuff. I’m having visions of mutating bots crawling through the internet, sifting through data and then spitting it out randomly to random email addresses (the only way I can explain this — anyone has a better theory?). Are we having a glimpse here of the subconscious of the internet?

I’ve decided to make up a poem with these pieces of found text, trying to adulterate them as little as possible. At least we can turn it into something useful, or less useless. Hey, perhaps I might be inventing a new literary genre, although I think the bots have beat me to it. Enjoy!
